Guanacaste is located in the northwestern part of the country, along the Pacific coast. Among the many activities are golfing and deep sea fishing; this is Costa Rica’s gold coast where hundreds of miles of sandy beaches, hotel and tourism development, encompass a route that features dry and humid tropical forests, mangrove reserves and the flora and fauna of the Costa Rican wetlands and savannahs; combined with all sorts of water sports and adventure under the sun. Snorkeling and scuba diving are especially great in this area. Most of this area is flat land, with extensive farms and cow fields, home of the Costa Rican: vaquero” where people has a fond the real warm friendly way of being of the Ticos.
Coco and Hermosa
Coco is among the most well-known beaches in the country. It is located near to Papagayo Gulf, its beautiful beach is easily accessible by all and is less than a 40-km drive from the Liberia Airport. This beach is a very popular area for sport fishing, for surfers due to reach places like Ollie’s Point and Witches Rock, where the waves are very strong and also for the scuba diving; this is a primary spot on the country to practice this sport. On the Other hand we have Hermosa Beach. Hermosa, means "beautiful" in Spanish.
This is an aptly named gray-sand beach that perches between two mountains. In fact there are two Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica; the other is located in the Central Pacific Coast near Jaco. Guanacaste's Playa Hermosa is situated between Playa del Coco and Playa Panama; Hermosa is a fabulous getaway for those seeking for quality relaxation. The clear and calm waters invites you to adopt the “take it easy” culture, enjoy the sun, listen the ocean and take a nap under a palm shadow, lulled by the wave’s song.
Tamarindo, Flamingo and Conchal
Tamarindo Beach has much to offer besides its crystal clear ocean, exquisite nature and breathtaking sunsets. The beach is a three and a half kilometer stretch of white sand and warm blue water, here the sun shines almost the 365 days per year, and the temperature is warm year round.
At Tamarindo Beach you will find first class sport fishing, sailing, surfing, golfing, ATV tours, turtle watching, diving, horseback riding, canopy tours, jungle boat rides, beauty spa, restaurants, hotels, shopping and much more. It is the ideal place for honeymoons and weddings, couples, and families, and wonderfully suited to eco-adventures.
Also in this area we will find Flamingo Beach, with its really white sand, unspoiled beaches and turquoise waters. Playa Flamingo offers some of the best deep sea fishing in the world. Marlin, tuna, swordfish and snapper can be found off the coast all year around, making this beach an extremely popular tourist destination.
Also every July, this beautiful beach plays host to a fantastic international sailfish tournament. Besides deep sea fishing, Playa Flamingo offers a lot of water sports and due to its location is very close to Santa Rosa National Park and the Palo Verde natural reserve.
We have here as well Conchal Beach, it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica because of the white shells that cover it, in fact in Spanish, Conchal comes from the word concha that means shell.
The turquoise water is excellent for snorkeling. Conchal Beach is located 1.2 kilometers from 6.7 kilometers from Playa Flamingo. It consists of 1.5 kilometer long beach, shaded by trees and it is a wonderful beach for swimming and sun bathing.
