SOS Children's Villages Costa Rica
What do we do?
Our mission
We build families for children in situations of abandonment or orphanhood, we support them to form their own future and participate in the development of their communities.
SOS Children's Villages is a reliable and safe option for children who lost their protection from their parents and need a place to live, grow and develop.
Our vision
We want the world's children have a family and grow with love, respect and security.
How do children arrive into SOS Children's Villages?
On receiving a complaint by any person (family, neighbor, anonymous) that children may be under attack, thePatronato Nacional de la Infancia (PANI) intervenes to protect them.
If abuse is confirmed, PANI measures all options for these children to continue living with another family resource in the same community where they have grown or look for an adoption.
Exhausted those possibilities and if none is feasible, a family court judge determine the child and his siblings under abandon. It is at this point that the SOS Children's Villages takes them to live in a new family, with an SOS mother.
The SOS mother
The main function of these mothers is creating a home, supply all the needs of the family, ensuring the welfare of children and guide them with affection and responsibility.
How live children in SOS Children's Villages?
SOS Children's Villages is there to make these children live and enjoy childhood like any other child of the same age.
They go to local schools, have classmates and friends who can play and share freely. Also, depending of their ages, they help to their SOS mothers in household chores.
Youths do not have to leave their home in SOS village when they reach 18. They become independent when they have the capacity to look after their own needs.
One of the main objectives of SOS Villages is that children overcome difficult situations in their lives; so, when they form their own family does not repeat what they experienced as children.
What SOS Children's Villages uses donations?

Children living in SOS Villages receive food, clothing, transportation, health, education, culture, recreation and a home equipped with everything they need. Moreover, children receive individual attention as needed, (specialists, doctors, psychology, educational psychology, nutrition ...) and are constantly accompanied by the SOS mothers and aunts who receive a salary for their work.
In all this is that Costa Rica Children's Villages invests the money you generously donate, in children and the value of their smiles.
